The Adams - French Mansion was built in 1856 by Col. John Cox, a wealthy planter of the Wren district for his daughter, Mrs. Robert S. Adams. Robert Adams came from Goldsboro, North Carolina, and was one of Aberdeen's most successful business men. He was a partner in the slave dealing firm of Adams & Wicks in the early 1850's and later the two men engaged in the banking business. The banking firm would become the First National Bank of Aberdeen. In 1872 Mr. Adams died and his widow married Dr. Anderson H. French. Architecturally this is one of North Mississippi's most important houses.
